Wineries in Corfu

Corfu boasts a captivating winemaking tradition shaped by its rich history and diverse influences. While not as widely recognized as some other Greek wine regions, Corfu offers a unique and rewarding wine experience.

The wineries in Corfu specialize in producing exquisite white wines, although they also craft noteworthy red and rosé varieties. The island’s Mediterranean climate, characterized by warm summers and mild winters, creates the perfect conditions for grape cultivation. The vineyards, nestled in the picturesque inland hills, benefit from cool breezes and fertile soils.

One of Corfu’s star grape varieties is the indigenous Kakotrygis, known for its enchanting aromas of citrus, herbs, and flowers. Additionally, winemakers cultivate renowned grapes like Robola, Malvasia, Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains, and Goustolidi.

Corfu wineries are predominantly family-owned, cherishing traditional winemaking methods passed down through generations. Many of these welcoming establishments offer guided tours and tastings, allowing visitors to delve into the island’s wine culture and appreciate its vinicultural heritage.

Although Corfu’s winery landscape may be smaller in scale, it provides an intimate and authentic experience for wine enthusiasts. The island’s wines showcase distinctive characteristics and beautifully complement the region’s Mediterranean cuisine, resulting in an unforgettable culinary adventure.

Exploring Corfu’s wineries enables you to immerse yourself in the island’s captivating history, breathtaking landscapes, and the unwavering passion of its winemakers. Whether you’re a wine connoisseur or an adventurous traveler, Corfu’s winery scene promises an exceptional and memorable journey.

Here are a few ideas of wineries to explore:

Theotoky Estate — Ropa Valley

One of Corfu’s oldest and best-known wineries, set in the fertile Ropa Valley at the green heart of the island. This historic estate works with the native Kakotrygis grape and welcomes visitors for tastings among the vines.

Grammenos Winery — Sinarades

A small, welcoming family winery near the traditional hill village of Sinarades, west of Corfu Town — a lovely spot for an unhurried tasting of local whites.

Goulis Winery — Liapades

A boutique producer in the hills above Liapades on the northwest coast, a short hop from the famous bays of Paleokastritsa.

Ambelonas — Karoumpatika

A beautifully restored vineyard estate just outside Corfu Town, pairing wine tastings with farm-to-table Corfiot cooking, cookery classes and cultural evenings — one of the island’s most complete wine experiences.

Pontiglio Winery — Lefkimi

Down in the sunny south near Lefkimi, the heart of Corfu’s olive and wine country, where the warm climate gives generous, sun-ripened wines.

Nemea Winery — Paleokastritsa

Set near the dramatic bays of Paleokastritsa on the northwest coast — easy to fold into a day exploring that side of the island.

Planning a winery visit

Most of Corfu’s wineries are family-run, so it’s worth calling or booking ahead — many offer guided tours and tastings, and some, like Ambelonas, add a full meal. You can even book a wine tasting organised by a chef. The vineyards sit inland among the hills, so a car makes them easy to combine into a relaxed day out (see Do you need a car in Corfu?). Corfu’s crisp, citrusy Kakotrygis whites are made for the island’s seafood — order a bottle with lunch at one of the tavernas along the coast. The grape harvest in late summer is a lovely time to visit, when the estates are at their busiest and most alive.

Many of these estates are an easy drive from our homes — La Châtaigne, in the quiet central countryside, is especially well placed for the Ropa Valley, town and southern wineries.
